-- PhD and MS -- Caltech -- Diplom Physiker -- Freie Universitat Berlin youngest graduate in Germany at 21. Completed the last 3 years in 3 semesters for fear I might have to learn German. I failed -- fluent in German now. -- Participated in the Mathematics Olympiad and scored 980/990 on the GRE Subject at the end of Highschool, not University.

Experience

My little claim to fame is that I've made an original contribution to the LIGO project and we won the Nobel Prize last year. While, I am not on of the recipients, I have a two author paper with Thorne. Thorne and I also published, at my initiative, a set of movies on Gravitational Waves on DVD and online. They have been used since as a core resource for educating people on the subject in the LIGO collaboration and not only. Soon after we published the DVDs, I taught the subject myself as a winter school. Thorne later went on to produce the Hollywood hit Interstellar and win the Nobel Prize last year. I have taught String Theory and General Relativity at high school level. The String Theory summer school was a world first. The later was a national first and resulted in 80% of my students being awarded scholarships for university in the US. I have also been a Teaching Assistant for David Politzer (Nobel 2004) for about 5 years.

Hobbies

Rock climbing, swimming in the sea, skiing and, really, going where no one has gone before -- with the eye of the mind, powered by mathematics. I am generally upbeat, dynamic, energetic and often share my contagious enthusiasm for Physics and not only. I can be a bit of a rebel. In the past, I've succeeded more by breaking rules than by obeying. Science after all is about going where no one has gone before. I like teaching -- it's what I do for fun and to relax, but I also like my freedom -- I fly a lot, so I may be unable to commit to a regular schedule. I should maybe put down earning money as a hobby too, as I was never serious about it. In fact, I've often made efforts to avoid earning and keeping the money, but Physics can be used to predict the future -- things like the stock market, real estate and how they respond to wars and politics in general. Investments can then be made and profits achieved.
