I have lived in Italy, England, the United States and now Denmark. I have an American father and Danish mother and have therefore grown up speaking both languages. Living in many different countries and experiencing multiple school systems has taught me a lot about education, learning and languages. I have had the opportunity to learn English (in both non-English speaking and English speaking countries), Latin, Spanish, French and Chinese. I have also gotten to develop a Chinese lesson plan for a local school in Lexington, Virginia. Why do I want to be a tutor: I find a lot of joy in teaching other people languages and watching their abilities and confidence progress. I would love to add to my previous experience in tutoring and have the opportunity to teach in Denmark. Relevant Teaching Classes: English 234 – Children’s Literature Description: In this course we studied works written in English for children. We then explored how children learn to read and develop their vocabulary. We were then placed in local classrooms to served as literacy aids. Economics 234 - Urban Education: Poverty, Ethnicity and Politics Description: Explored the determinants of education achievement and attainment in urban education through three weeks of fieldwork in schools in the Richmond area. Observed and worked to understand critical components of teaching and learning in the urban classroom.
